Acorn Weevil Sticker

In late summer, when the acorns ripen on the oak trees, female acorn weevils like Matilda here look to find the perfect specimen into which they'll lay their eggs. They use their looong snoot (which also happens to contain mouthparts) to chew a hole then deposit eggs into the acorn, which heals up, giving the one or two developing larva that hatch inside protection from parasites. The baby weevils spend the winter as larva, munching on the inside of the acorn, until the weather turns warmer and they can emerge. 

No wonder Matilda is protecting the acorn so fiercely! 

This protective beetle is waterproof and UV-resistant.
